Overhanging replaceable empty chamber membrane filter plate
The overhanging empty chamber version of the replaceable membrane filter plate has been developed from the welded membrane filter plate and has all its major benefits additional to its exchangeability of the membranes.
As with all Klinkau replaceable membrane filter plates, this product can also cope with squeezing into empty chambers. Its simple and robust construction makes it the preferred filter plate for all water and waste water applications. Membranes can be replaced easily within minutes even after years of service and even when the membrane body plate shows signs of shrinkage and/or swelling.
This product was originally intended for water and waste water applications but – primarily due to the ease and economy of replacing its membranes – it is now being widely used within the chemicals industry for processing chemically aggressive slurries. The membrane is fixed to the plate's lower sealing edge to prevent any unwanted leakage of residual squeeze medium.
Advantages of the replaceable membrane filter plate empty chamber overhang
- Permits squeezing into partially filled or empty chambers
- Extremely easy membrane replacement even after years of usage
- Membrane can be replaced within the filter press
- Variable choice of materials for high chemical resistance

Technology
As in welded membrane filter plates, replaceable membrane filter plates also use membrane squeezing during the inefficient phase of pressure filtration, the dewatering to the final residual moisture content. Filtering efficiency is therefore maximised throughout the filtration phase and filtration times are significantly reduced.
Klinkau's overhanging replaceable membrane filter plate is designed on the different functions of the membrane and the membrane body plate. The body plate's function is to cope with the mechanical requirements of a chamber filter plate. It is designed to support the membrane during the filtration process. The plate has a pipped profile so the membrane does not lie completely flat to the plate. This ensures an even lift of during the squeezing phase and guarantees an even filter cake build up.
The membrane in the overhang version is loosely fixed to the plate using only a steel ring around the inlet area and clips on the outside. Changing the membrane is quick and easy. The plates do not need to be removed from the press, a major benefit for top-suspended systems.
Klinkau membrane filter plates have two hinge lines that keep flexion tensions to a minimum at the hinged areas during filtration and squeezing, thus extending the service life of the membranes. Squeezing into empty chambers is possible without damaging the membrane.
